About this Episode

Opening Song:

Psalm 1 by Poor Bishop Hooper

Lyrics:

Oh the joy, the joy, the joy

Of those who delight in the law of the lord

Oh the joy, the joy, the joy of those

Who meditate day and night in the law of the lord

Let all my delight be only in

Your sweet and right instruction

Like trees along the river with leaves that never wither

Everything they do will prosper in you

Passage:

1 Blessed is the man

who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,

nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD,

and on his law he meditates day and night.

3 He is like a tree

planted by streams of water

that yields its fruit in its season,

and its leaf does not wither.

In all that he does, he prospers.

4 The wicked are not so,

but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

6 for the LORD knows the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked will perish.

(Psalm 1:1–6 ESV)

Musical Reflection:

Harp meditation No. 1 by Gretchen Kirby

Reflection Notes:

A repetitive pattern in the left hand provides a meditative foundation while the right hand experiments with ascending lines. The tune is meant to be joyful and evoke delight.

Prayer:

We beseech you, O Lord, to purify our consciences by your daily visitation; that when your Son our Lord comes, he may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. The Gelasian Sacramentary
