About this Episode

Opening Song:

Omnipotent Yet Intimate by Anna Bartlett Warner, Benjamin Potter, Elyssa Smith, Gable Patrick Price, Ryan Gilpin, and William Batchelder Bradbury

Lyrics:

Omnipotent yet intimate

By hand you rended heaven

In skin and flesh

In humbleness

The Godhead has descended

Though you handcrafted the cosmos

Though your words have formed the heavens

Heart to heart you speak to me

Hand in hand you’re fathering me

Interstellar yet cellular

You comprehend our complex

From earthquaking

To hearts-breaking

You care for our condition

Yes Jesus Loves me

Yes Jesus Loves me

Yes Jesus Loves me

Heart to heart you speak to me

Yes Jesus Loves me

Yes Spirit Loves me

Yes Father Loves me

Hand in hand you’re fathering

Heart to heart you speak to me

Hand in hand you’re fathering

The cosmic triune deity

Disclosed to me His mystery

Eternally

Restored to me

A love that’s never failing

Passage:

Ps 71:11-20

...and say, “God has forsaken him;

    pursue and seize him,

    for there is none to deliver him.”

12 O God, be not far from me;

    O my God, make haste to help me!

13 May my accusers be put to shame and consumed;

    with scorn and disgrace may they be covered

    who seek my hurt.

14 But I will hope continually

    and will praise you yet more and more.

15 My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,

    of your deeds of salvation all the day,

    for their number is past my knowledge.

16 With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come;

    I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.

17 O God, from my youth you have taught me,

    and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.

18 So even to old age and gray hairs,

    O God, do not forsake me,

until I proclaim your might to another generation,

    your power to all those to come.

19 Your righteousness, O God,

    reaches the high heavens.

You who have done great things,

    O God, who is like you?

20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities

    will revive me again;

from the depths of the earth

    you will bring me up again.

Musical Reflection:

Harp Meditation No. 2 by Gretchen Kirby

Reflection Notes:

This modal meditation centers around an intervallic pattern in the right hand that is anchored by deep bass octaves in the left hand and occasional supportive harmonies. Though somewhat haunting, the melodic motif provokes reflection.

Prayer:

O God, you know that we are set in the midst of many grave dangers, and because of the frailty of our nature we cannot always stand upright: Grant that your strength and protection may support us in all dangers and carry us through every temptation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
